Wet weekend, with Le Guin
Mar. 15th, 2025 11:53 pmWe’re getting a lot of rain! We had maybe two breaks in the rain today. During the first I walked to the store for some produce, and during the second we had the kind of windstorm that portends a whole lot of precipitation – we could hear lawn chairs getting knocked over and pushed all around the yard.
This afternoon I finally watched a PBS show about Ursula Le Guin, which had been on my DVR for years. She’s probably the SFF author I’ve seen in person most often, excluding the ones who know me too, and the filmmaker came to our feminist science fiction conferences back when we had them (as did Le Guin). I enjoyed the film and will save it to watch again (although I bet the filmmaker regrets relying so heavily on interviewing Neil Gaiman).
On the other hand, I haven’t read all that many of Le Guin’s books – the original Earthsea trilogy, the Orsinian story collection, and an essay collection when I was young, Tehanu when I was grown, and a part of Always Coming Home, an experimental book which was J’s book club assignment last summer and which I’m pretty sure none of us finished. I do own more of her books, though, and I put three of them on my “Resolutions List” for the year. I even started one today!
