I've been making good progress on updating my book manuscript from a summer and fall of reading in different fields - no major changes but more support for what I'm doing. So that feels great! Also, today I decided that since I was more than halfway through Neuromancer, I would just keep going until it was done, and thus I finished it before the month was half over! My other reading commitment is also within striking distance.

It's the time of year here where it gets cold and foggy, especially at night, so when we go on a walk after dark we have to really bundle up, but also things look pretty interesting, especially since some people still have their Christmas lights up. Today the fog was the thickest yet - certainly not enough to make driving unsafe, or anything like that, just enough to make the trees look cool. J joined me this evening, and we went to the turf field, then on the adjacent track, then stopped in Safeway on our way home and did our week's shopping easily.

Neuromancer, by William Gibson. This classic novel, the first to be called "cyberpunk," was not exactly easy reading. The atmosphere was "noir" and he uses lots of vocabulary that he's just made up, and of course strange and surreal things can happen at any point. I was rather pleased near the end that our two main characters were actually displaying real human feelings, and also the one character I most wanted to survive did so, which surprised me. The sheer creativity was dazzling. I doubt I'll ever read any Gibson again, though.
