Today's football score was Oregon 63, Cal 19, and although the most important part of the game is yet unresolved - the seriously injured young player from Oakland, whose prognosis has not yet been publicized - another aspect of the game was seeing on TV just how beautiful our fall color is right now.

In the evening, when the rain had temporarily stopped, I went on a walk to the neighborhood school and back, and I took this photo of one of the street trees, a maple illuminated by a street light:

Today I got some work done and a bit of cleaning. I also watched a Monk episode (I'm on the final season), and the Friday night movie with J, which was Office Space. It seems unlikely that we'll read the book for his book club this month, as it's a sad one. I'm curious about why people would choose to read sad books, frankly. Meanwhile, D's had nightmares all week from watching too much "true crime" stuff - I can't really see the appeal in that, either, but it seems marginally more interesting than deliberately making oneself feel sad. We have the ability to feed our imaginations with all sorts of wonders - strange places, great beauty, people working hard to do good.
