Day 1010: Christmas, a full day!
Dec. 25th, 2022 11:59 pmEventually we were all up and went over to J's library to unpack our stockings. Then D. went off with our gifts for his girlfriend. She gave him a fun t-shirt, her mom gave him a few things I can't remember, and her mom's landlady also gave him some things - I will have to remember that the new ornament on the tree is his. D's dad had gone off to visit his family in California, which makes excellent sense, and I don't think D. minded not seeing him today as that would have made him rather rushed, but surely R. could have told him this in advance? Oh well.
I made Christmas dinner - roast beef for all of us, roast potatoes and carrots for me, mashed potatoes for J, biscuits mostly for D, raw carrots for D, and two flavors of Martinelli's sparkling cider, which we all shared. J. fed the fat strips from the beef to the outdoor cats and Bella managed to eat pretty much all of them. Then we went to J's house, and my sister K. and her husband joined us for more than two hours of conversation. We hadn't seen them in nearly a year, though they're local. We showed them the wedding photos (they'd been sick that day) and talked about, hm, relatives' politics and having to take P.E. in school.
They left around 9:30 pm, then J. and I went on a walk to see more Christmas lights. We went up the hill to the west, where one house is moderately elaborate. Like so:

We walked home via a loop that brings us quite near to the back of J's house, then goes about three blocks in the other direction before meeting up with 40th Ave, which we walk back on to get home again. Almost as soon as we got to 40th, we noticed a black cat and wondered if it could be Parker or Oberon, although that seemed quite far for them to be from home. It was Oberon! I picked him up and carried him a while, then he trotted along behind for while, then I picked him up again until we were home. We think maybe he'd heard our voices when we'd been near J's house, then ran between some houses to join us?
Once we got home, I remembered the other Christmas thing I'd had in mind, and that was to introduce Sorin and Ajani to their new toy, a robot snake I'd bought at Safeway. Sorin was quite interested, though a bit wary, and Ajani was moderately concerned - just as we'd expect from them. Then the snake stopped going forward - maybe a bit of carpet or cat fur had gotten wrapped around a wheel. I'll have to figure it out later.
Then J. and I went back to his house and read Brandon Sanderson books the rest of the evening. What a fun day!
