Let's see. Today I watched the football game (a frustrating loss for Oregon, which had been ranked #6, to our arch-rival Washington), and an interesting Nova episode about the Nazca geoglyphs in Peru. I made a blog post and did some other enjoyable work, and I watched half of a video of Delgani's cellist, Eric, talking about one of the Beethoven string quartets (59/2).

Meanwhile, over in Salt Lake City, J and D and our friends joined in the main event, a sealed tournament for which the grand prize is a Black Lotus, a famous Magic card. An alpha edition Black Lotus signed by the artist went for auction for $551,000, but the edition they could win is only worth around $20,000. By round five, J and JC were both 5-0, D was 4-1, and DG and NJ had probably both dropped. J got paired against JC! Too bad. He beat him then lost the next two rounds. D. also finished at 6-2, like J, so they both advanced to Day Two of the tournament, though their records aren't good enough to keep them in contention for the Black Lotus. They'll try for other prizes. They then had a nice dinner at the local Cheesecake Factory, though they had to wait more than an hour and a half for their food.
