Day 951: Scheherazade
Oct. 27th, 2022 11:55 pmI was quite annoyed with how my body works, for much of the day. Basically, I sleep very poorly if I'm excited, and I function very poorly if I'm short of sleep, which can mess up what I'm excited about. Tonight was the symphony's performance of Scheherazade, my long-time favorite by Rimsky-Korsakov. So, naturally, despite getting plenty of exercise yesterday to tire myself out (but not too much), it took me well over two hours to fall asleep last night, and then today I wasn't able to sleep much past my normal waking time. I ate breakfast, fed all the cats, and spent much of the afternoon trying to nap, but nope.
So then I was nauseous, wobbly, and a bit headachy for the concert. We decided we didn't care about the pre-concert talk or even the first half of the concert (David Krakauer and the symphony performing his new work - the high pitch clarinet would not have been good for my head). AA came by to get her ticket and drove on her own; she attended the concert from the beginning. We left home with ample time to arrive before the intermission and ended up parking in a nice outdoor location that involved a minimum of turning (for which I was grateful), and we arrived with about 12 minutes of the new Krakauer piece to go, so we didn't miss it entirely.
Then we went to our seats and settled in and watched Scheherazade. Lovely, lovely. I was so glad to get to share it with them. J's classical music exposure isn't non-existent, but he hadn't heard this work before, and it's all pretty new to AA. (DG was jealous - he had to be at a conference in Sun River.)
Then we walked AA back to her car, then we walked to ours and drove home (no rain today, nice!), and then we relaxed. I hope I get rested up properly before 4 pm tomorrow, when I'll get my bivalent booster shot.
Bernie Sanders was on campus today, and D. had planned to attend but ended up getting there too late. Would have been cool, though!
