Day 862: Birthday eve
Jul. 28th, 2022 11:56 pmTomorrow is D's 22nd birthday, so today I did things like make pie dough and wrap his gifts. Our friends D&A came over too; we ordered Mexican food and enjoyed several hours of conversation and air conditioning. (Their new house is only partly air conditioned.)
D. has a big coding assignment due tomorrow and didn't want to have to spend his birthday project on homework, so he worked a bunch on it yesterday and today. He showed me the project when it was done, and mentioned that the class is deliberately more difficult than when S. took it. I commiserated at the time, but later I realized that his objectives have changed - it used to be that he was focusing on completing requirements while getting the best grades that he could get without being too stressed and miserable. Now, however, his objective is to learn as much as he can, as fast as he can (again, without being too stressed and miserable). So, as long as he can stand it, the harder the class is the better. When I told him this, he agreed that I may be right.
