Day 785: Fence update
May. 11th, 2022 09:57 pmToday the fence guy came back to see the situation and talk with us about it in person. It sounds like he has a creative plan to make the fence 2' taller, and we'll split the costs with him; he may even come build it himself rather than sending his crew. J and I were pretty delighted with this outcome; we'll still have to explain it to the neighbors, which we'll probably do in the next few days.
Communication, though - that's not really this guy's thing. Yesterday he'd emailed that he was coming today and would 12-1 pm be okay? I wrote back and asked if we could try for 2 or 3 pm (since my sleep schedule is currently 3:30-11:30 am). He didn't write back, so that meant I had to be ready for him at noon. It was nice out, so I waited outside (with many of my cat-friends), so that he wouldn't wake D. up by knocking or ringing the doorbell. (D's time for getting up on Wednesdays is currently around 1 pm.)
So. I read a bit more of Strange Beasts of China, and I kind of doubt I'll ever finish it; it's more the type of book that one can be glad to have read than necessarily enjoy the act of reading. Then I read bits of a book about an artist who created an AI to make art, back in the '70s. Then I read a bunch of a marketing book. By this point I started worrying about sunburn. The fence guy didn't answer the phone at 12-something but he did answer when I tried again around 2 pm, and he assured me he was coming "between 2 and 3, per our email communication." He did arrive right about 3 pm.
After we were done meeting, I finally got to shower, which was good after all that pollen exposure. Then I returned library books downtown and at the university but discovered I was really rather sleepy, making driving in the coming-home-from-work traffic a bit stressful. J. went off to play Magic and I've had a lovely nap on his couch.
