By the time I got up today, they had finished the new fence at J's house. It's definitely pretty, and an improvement over what was there, but... we'd ordered an 8' fence and it's a 6' fence. The yards at J's house and the neighbors' house both slope down toward the fence, so 6' is not enough, and we can see right into their house. I double-checked the estimate, and it did say 8', so I phoned the fence company. It turns out the 8' was a typo - his notes all said 6', and the price was at the 6' rate. But we had no way to know that, because the estimate had the height we wanted and were expecting.
So now he'll send us a bid for putting a heavy-duty lattice structure along the top, either 1' or 2' tall, but I doubt the neighbors will want to pay even more, and J. may not either. I do wish the neighbors would come over here and see for themselves that their privacy is lacking. I've invited them to do so multiple times.
I didn't feel as well today as yesterday, but I did shop at both grocery stores. Then we had an online birthday party for![[profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
jmermin! It was just the two of us, and him, and his girlfriend, who arranged it. We played online bridge for nearly three hours. I have to relearn bridge every time we play (since it's years between times), and I wasn't feeling very alert, but I think I generally did okay. They'll be visiting us in late June - early July; they are always glad for an excuse to leave Oklahoma, but since he's a math professor he is pretty much stuck there until retirement.
