Day 693: "Early" start
Feb. 8th, 2022 11:26 pmI actually woke up in time for today's Bach book club meeting, without having to rely on my alarm. That's great, because I function so much better if the alarm isn't involved. It would be nicer if my body hadn't settled on a 4 am bedtime, but there's not a whole lot I can do about that without a great deal of fuss. Anyway, book club was at noon, and the yard guy was scheduled to come at 1 pm, even though he'd called me yesterday begging to start at noon. I said no, I wanted to talk with him first, and I was going to be in a meeting until 1, so he eventually gave in. He was worried that he wouldn't be home by 3:30 pm, but I was pretty confident about that.
So when book club was done, I checked my phone, and he and his son were getting lunch and expected to arrive at 1:30 pm. Fine... and they were about five minutes early, and that was fine too. But guess how much time it took for them to finish what they'd planned? Rather less than 20 minutes!!!
It's still a mess, with lots of stumps of blackberry vines, but everything intended to be hauled away has been hauled away. Now I need to learn how to get rid of the landscape fabric that's under the surface, because the hauling-stuff guy thinks the next step is for some relative of his to come and rototill it, and I'm sure a rototiller can't cope with a vast quantity of landscape fabric.
Also today I watched All Creatures Great and Small (cricket match), made progress on my paper, and tried to do a walk. I only got as far as T's house (about 300 meters, less than a quarter mile), though, because Blitzen had decided to accompany me, meowing for attention and cutting right in front of me repeatedly. I didn't dare get her near a main road, and I also didn't want to go further than she was familiar with, in case she panicked and got lost. Oh well; it was nice to hang out with Blitzen.
