Day 686: Not exactly productive
Feb. 1st, 2022 11:36 pmToday was the first meeting of the new Oregon Bach Festival book club, where we discussed the first half of The Little Bach Book. Its author, David Gordon, was there to answer our questions; he seemed quite congenial. The book is fun, as it's basically lots of details of what it was like for Bach to live and work in Leipzig, during that part of his career. That is, we learned about ink, lighting, food, etc., daily life stuff. I wasn't exactly enthusiastic about the part of the meeting where we broke into discussion groups, especially as I was in a Zoom-room with just one other person and thus couldn't lurk, but she ("Laura in Seaside") seemed nice.
After that I took a nap and woke feeling quite disoriented, with a headache, so I decided to attend the second Delgani concert online rather than in person. My previous viewing paid off, as I was much more attuned to details this time, and I've been humming the main theme of the last movement of the Beethoven piece ever since. J. did sword class in person this week too, which lasted three hours - that sounds so tiring! and then we did our weekly supermarket shopping after that, rather late. In the checkout line we ran into D's favorite coworker, the cake decorator, and I got to ask about the resolution of the complicated cake order D. had had to deal with on Sunday - she did pull it off, but it sounded dramatic and stressful. I was glad I asked, since it showed support, and then I was able to tell D. the rest of the story.
