Day 129: Spears
Jul. 21st, 2020 11:54 pmToday was the last day of J's most recent three-day "vacation," which shortened two work-weeks. One of his goals for today was to use the mini-chainsaw to finally create a spear from the walnut tree that regularly sprouts beside the hot tub. He'd been carefully cultivating it for many months, trimming off the branches, and at this point it was at least 12' tall.
So in the evening, when it wasn't hot outside, we cut that down and a bunch of other trees that had sprouted up too - a few birches, a cottonwood or two, and a couple of small native oaks. Now he has a 6' "spear" to file so that it's not actually pointy, and we could make a pair of flimsier spears from the upper part of the walnut and the straightest of the birches. I guess he'll use them in sword class, and I guess it's fun to have spears.
