Cancelled and postponed
Mar. 12th, 2020 01:53 amToday was the big day for cancelling things - two more concerts I was planning to attend in the coming week, the talk about cat behavior I was looking forward to this evening (but realized I couldn't responsibly go to, since I have a sore throat), the class on Celtic mythology scheduled for Wednesday evenings in May. Most of that will be rescheduled, I'm sure. Finally, late in the day, they shut the public schools, from now until March 31. I hope that won't be too much of a hardship for families; at least they're still planning to have food for the children who rely on school breakfasts and lunches.
My grant proposal is nearly done, and I can now relax until/while the final bits trickle in. And I can get back to everything else I've had to set aside. This is a really strong proposal - and if they don't fund it, it will be a good sign that they're just not interested in funding my line of research any further. People keep comforting me because the current Administration has cut back the funding so severely, but that's not actually the problem with my proposals; the problem is that reviewers now want cool neuroscience, and proposals more closely aligned with the humanities are no longer cool enough. (They only say the former - neuroscience yes! - but the latter is then the consequence.) We'll see.
