Splendid day
May. 2nd, 2019 11:55 pmToday when I woke up the headache was gone, but I was definitely sick. Fortunately I wasn't very uncomfortable, so I was able to do everything I had planned. And that was, basically, two outings.
First, I got together with a new friend from book club, JS - she's a childhood friend of one of our existing members who recently moved to the area. She is terrific! We sat out in the sunshine at Hideaway Bakery and told each other about our lives and families. Her husband also sounds great, and they love board games, and J. and I will get together with them soon, I hope.
Then, J. and I went to the annual donor dinner for the youth orchestras. This time it was at Temple Beth Israel, and the food was from Falling Sky. We had salmon in a "stir fry" with bits of asparagus, some kind of yellow steamed beets, and roasted potatoes, and some salad of shredded vegetables. I had never had beets before, and they tasted just fine. There was music, including a preview of the concerto by LL, our principal clarinet, who has decided to attend our local university (and I'm pleased to remember that it was my suggestion for him to consider it, as last summer he had firmly decided to go away to school). We didn't talk much with our table mates, but we did talk quite a bit with David Jacobs, the youth symphony conductor, whose wife hadn't come, and then quite a bit with one generous donor whom we've sat with at these events before (a retired female computer science professor - I can only imagine what computers were like when she started with that), and quite a bit with the board president's husband (who had lots to say about the various Marvel movies; he's read all the comics related to this arc), and then quite a bit with LL, and some with R&P, who were amused to hear about J's sword class.
My throat had gotten pretty sore even just talking to JS earlier today, and I'm rather dizzy too, but I had fun and was able to ignore all that. I hope tomorrow doesn't ask too much of me...
(Oh, the really funny thing was that I looked up to see the other time recently that I'd had an abrupt headache all day one day and the next day the headache was gone and I was just plain sick, and (a) it was also in May, and (b) the other time I had also done a whole bunch of yardwork on the headache day. Apparently this disease-or-allergy-thing messes up my judgment in a consistent way.)
