J. got off work early, and we met downtown and he finally got to try that blackberry cobbler cider, which I agree was quite tasty! Also, getting a meal at 3:30 pm was much quieter than at 4:30 pm, so it was a success all around. There was a musical version of A Christmas Carol playing silently on a big TV screen, and it turned out that J. was very familiar with it; I had never seen it. I can't agree that having a crowd of people singing and dancing gleefully about his death ought to lead Scrooge to reform; it seemed rather appalling.

Anyway, when we were done with our meal, I talked J. into walking around while I did more shopping for D. and found what I think was a good gift for B. We went all the way along Willamette to Fifth, then over to the Fifth Street Market. Hooray for dry weather. The full moon was rising and looked huge; I guess I seldom see it that close to the horizon since my neighborhood is surrounded by hills and I am usually not at the office that late.

On the way back, we took separate routes for a bit so I could do yet more shopping, then we met up at the game store, where J. talked me into joining in the Magic draft. Mostly I talked to my neighbor, a friendly fellow who's a judge and lawyer, whom we know casually. I wasn't very good at playing my deck (inexperience with this set, and it was a tricky Izzet one), and after two rounds I dropped and came home. I got six gifts wrapped, with I guess twelve more to go; I think the stockings are all set, though.
