Dec. 7th, 2018

I got a surprising amount done today, given that I've still got this cold and felt a bit queasy today too. My day started at 6:15 a.m. when I got up to see D. and J. off to the Grand Prix. It was a bit before dawn, and Venus was surprisingly high in the sky, maybe even above 45 degrees. Of course I went back to sleep after that.

When I got up again, I went to Hideaway Bakery for a "policies" meeting for the youth orchestra (just three of us). Before going there, I had gone to the mechanic to get J's car repairs paid for, and parked the car back on the street so it wouldn't be locked inside all weekend. After the meeting, I went and got the car and brought it home - a process that involved walking more than two miles in 35-degree weather, although I didn't commit to it all at once; rather I did my "leapfrogging" process of driving one car a few blocks past where I'd parked the other one, and walking back to the other car. I picked up a burrito on the way, and when I got home I ate that while watching a Hallmark Christmas movie, Pride, Prejudice, and Mistletoe. It had very little P&P-like plot, but the main character was amusingly named Darcy Fitzwilliam, and the love interest was Luke Bennet, her one-time rival back when they'd been students at Pemberley High School.

Anyway. After that, I spent more than two hours wrapping up the online final progress report, "RPPR," for my NIH study. Then I played the "daily challenge" mode in Slay the Spire for the first time and got almost all the way to the final boss, actually. It was now late at night and I fed a whole bunch of cats, then fetched the mail, and I was going to go to J's house to water his houseplants but we'd had freezing rain so I stayed put.

J, D, and DG each played in a Magic event today that would have given them a free trip to London, had they won. D. went 4-1-1 and got about 50 packs' worth of prize tickets (worth over $100). J. went 4-2 and got 30 packs' worth, and I think DG dropped earlier and spent more time with his wife. Tomorrow is the Main Event. The winner of that gets $10K (and incidentally a free trip to London), but there could be like 2000 competitors...
