Today I got paper number 4 resubmitted, and also submitted a manuscript review. The main stuff was for the evening, when we planned to attend a session of "Ideas on Tap" at a new place called Viking Braggot (a braggot is a brew that's between beer and mead somewhere). The talk was on "sustainable design" and how we can make our community more resilient, especially as we expect lots of people to migrate here when climate makes elsewhere worse. But something like 44% of people here are either in poverty or at risk, and there are 1600 homeless, so we have a long ways to go.

Anyhow, J. was going to pick me up and drive me, but he got held up in traffic - the normal 15-20 minute drive took 35 minutes - and when we got there the place was completely packed. And there was no point in ordering food. So we waited 'til the talk was done and then I decided I'd just as soon eat at our regular pizza place, so off we went. But while we were eating, J. looked up the gasoline smell his car had developed this afternoon and decided it should go right to a mechanic. We were just two blocks from mine, so we took the car there, and as it was after 8:30 p.m. we put the key in the special receptacle then rushed to the bus stop to catch the only bus home for the next hour or so. It was barely above freezing, and I have this cold, so walking the mile and a half didn't seem great, but we did catch the bus (surprisingly full) and made it home. Honestly, I'd just as soon not take the bus that goes on that route because it really doesn't do well at going down the bit of steep hill right near our stop - it comes to a complete halt while at a very odd angle, which kind of freaks me out - but somehow it always starts up and goes forward again and gets to our street.
