Away vs. not
Sep. 12th, 2018 11:11 pmTwo of D's friends have gone off to universities on the East Coast, and one's gone to Portland, and on Sunday one of his closest friends for years (DH) is moving to Corvallis to start school at Oregon State. It's only 40 miles away and he can often come home on weekends, if he wants, but he seems so much more excited and nervous about this big step than D. does about the changes coming up in his own life. In a sense, for D. the change will be minimal - his university is just a few blocks away from his high school, and he'll even take the same bus. Of course, that's what I did too - my mom wouldn't let me go away to a different college because I was only 16, so I went to the same one I'd been familiar with for years.
Anyway, I got to talk to DH about it this evening, when he picked up D. for a last evening of hanging out together before the big event. I hope things go well for him! He's been working at jobs and internships for years, and he seems far better prepared for that aspect of the "adult" world than D. does. But it's okay; there's no rush.
