Around 7 pm I got in my car to head to the junior orchestra concert, not that I have a personal connection to junior orchestra this year, but as a dutiful board member I was looking forward to it. My car has had starting issues for a great many months - mostly unproductive clicking in the winter, then more of a whirring in the spring AAA had assured me that the battery was fine; they guessed it was the starter. Anyway, it's always started eventually (although it took 70 seconds of whirring this afternoon to get it going so I could drive home from the office), and I was waiting until the end of the school year to take it in for repairs. Nope. I invested around 20 minutes in getting it going for my drive to junior orchestra, and at that point I was obviously draining the battery, so I called AAA for a tow.
The congenial young fellow said he could drive me home afterwards (I'm about a mile and a half from the garage), but I thought, hey, let's get a ride to the high school for the concert instead, as it was not much more than a mile away and probably less out of his way than my house. Upon my arrival, I was confused to see the conductor and several of the musicians just wandering around outside - I thought, what, hasn't it even started yet, 50 minutes late? Nah, it was the intermission, but I remained a tad disoriented for the rest of the event. Afterwards I walked 14 blocks downtown to wait for J. to finish playing Magic at the store, for a ride home. Although it was well after dark, it wasn't particularly creepy - I made a point to take the street with the most open businesses. But I am definitely tired now!
