Shostakovich for video games?
May. 6th, 2018 11:58 pmThis afternoon I went to a concert by the university symphony orchestra. In addition to the Moldau piece by Smetana, they played several complete works of which the youth symphony had recently done just one movement: the Shostakovich cello concerto and the Sibelius second symphony. The latter was quite interesting as a well-crafted metanarrative of the Finnish nationalist movement, but the Shostakovich was even more fun when I realized that little bits here and there from the third movement had been inspirations for the Hollow Knight videogame soundtrack (which is very, very good). I'm going to have to find a recording and listen to that again.
D. spent the afternoon playing the Commander format of Magic with friends, then we had spaghetti, then he spent the evening at his girlfriends, and he didn't go to bed until nearly 1 a.m. I hope he won't be too sleepy for his IB English exam tomorrow.
