Three fine things!
Apr. 10th, 2018 11:49 pmYes, the proposal is gloriously, finally, submitted, and regular life can resume. Yay!
Also, today we finally learned that D. was just an alternate for the state solo contest, so he doesn't have to go. He is absolutely thrilled. The band teacher had made a mistake, apparently. David really, really, really did not want to go, but didn't say so back when it was time to decide. It was fun texting him while he was at school to let him know.
And then, this evening I went to this year's "Musicking" conference: the opening night reception and concert. It's a medieval and baroque thing they've been doing at the UO for three years now. Anne Azéma was back (she'd been here in 2012 too) and did a fancy performance on the theme of pilgrimage, with her partner, Shira Kammen. Part of it was from Chaucer - it's kind of fascinating that English has changed more since then than French has and is probably less intelligible to me, but on the other hand they've had the Académie française trying to do just that, so it's no real mystery. At the reception I got to meet a bunch of people I've mostly just seen around in the past, some of them quite a lot, so that was cool.
