Laptop update
Feb. 9th, 2018 11:57 pmToday I made a discovery. Reminded by
severusia that there's a value to examining the candidates in person, I went to the neighborhood Office Max to look at laptops. When I got there, I found that it is, in fact, possible to buy a laptop with the "old-fashioned" features I want - an hdmi port, a keyboard with a 10-key pad, an SD slot, and even a DVD player. Sure, these were not the lightweight, skinny, super-long-battery-charge units that are rated as the "best" laptops online, but since I seldom carry my laptops anywhere and rarely have them unplugged, why should I care?
It looks like I'm deciding between the Dell i5567-0927, with better resolution and a slightly more pleasant-feeling surface on the keys, and the Dell i5567-5734 with a fancier processor (Intel i5 3.10 GHz vs. i3 2.40 GHz). I probably care more about the resolution, even though it costs $100 more.
