All the things
Jan. 24th, 2018 11:56 pmToday I managed to do all the things that I had on my schedule - most of them were elective, and I really had no thought that I'd be able to do them all, yet I did. I think the key in managing my rather limited stamina was that I attended the various meetings via web-conferencing software, saving my dealing-with-traffic energy for when it counted most, driving to the youth orchestras board meeting across town in rush hour traffic in the rain. (When I got there, we approved the bylaws that I've been working on for the better part of three years!)
After that, I drove all the way back to campus (much less traffic and the rain had stopped) for a talk by journalist George Packer on the topic of "American Identity in the Age of Trump." I got there 20 minutes early and it was a good thing because the room was nearly full - coincidentally one of the few empty seats was next to my colleague Steve, who seemed to be the only person I knew in the whole room (although it turned out my friend Julie was there also). Perhaps I'll write more about it tomorrow - very interesting.
