Christmas 2017

Finally, Christmas is done. We had a good time! Yesterday, we all finished our wrapping, and D. finished his shopping (R. took him to the Holiday Market where he bought some local crafts for me), then we opened our gifts. J. and I ate crackers and cheeses and summer sausage and started reading our books, though we took a two-hour break to watch D. start playing Hollow Knight, and I took another break almost as long to go to the midnight service at the neighborhood Episcopal church, which has nice carols.
Today, J. got up early for an hour-long Skype conversation with his family in Chapel Hill. At noon, D. and I went over there so the three of us could discover what Santa had left in our stockings. D. went to his girlfriend's to exchange gifts, and I started a pot roast in J's oven. R. came and took D. to see Justice League (not a great film), and while they were gone, J. and I went to visit my mom, who was in a fine mood and enjoyed singing some carols with us. R. opened his gifts from D. then headed home. The three of us then had Christmas Dinner: pot roast (beef), roast potatoes and carrots, ciabbata rolls, sparkling ciders, and some pasta for D, who does not like potatoes. After we cleaned up, my sister and her husband arrived for conversation and to see J's library and our new legos, along with a hot-air-balloon mobile his mom had sent. Once they'd gone home, I took D. back to his girlfriend's house, and it seems that he's in no hurry to come home again, though I'd like to be finished with today's driving soon. J. continues reading the new Sanderson book, Oathbringer. Last night I read a book that I suppose qualifies as a "supernatural cozy mystery," and tonight I'm reading Nisi Shawl's Everfair, which is great. I'd had entirely the wrong impression based on the title, and as soon as I learned what it is actually about (steampunk Africa vs. Leopold!), I knew I must have it.
Hurray, D. called while I was in the middle of that next-to-last sentence.
