Writing a check to the U.S. Dept. of State

It feels really fancy to write a check to the State Department! Today we went to the post office to renew J's passport and to get one for D. as well. It's good for 10 years, and although D. has no plans to travel at the moment, it's nice to not be in a rush if it ever comes up. Mostly, though, I want him to have some decent ID since he's procrastinating his driver's license, and he can get a passport card as well as the usual "book." The card of course will serve very nicely as ID and is also good for crossing the Canadian and Mexican borders.
