Tired...

Why don't I get to have the usual adult quota of stamina? At least it's not much worse than it was 20 years ago... *grumble grumble grumble*

Anyway, I spent the better part of an hour pulling grass out of J's tall roses. They're not at all healthy. I am thinking that a heavy mulch to keep the grass smothered might help. After that I was super-tired. I did make it down to Pegasus Pizza to join J. and our friend D. It would be a lot nicer, though, to be able to work in the garden for 2-3 hours at a time. As it is, I'll have to avoid it tomorrow - if I resumed, I'd invariably come down with a cold or such. Bah.

I have to say, Halloween is so much easier without having to carve those jack o'lanterns. The last two years I've just put a candle on a saucer inside a plastic jack o'lantern and that was fine.

Although the day had been sunny, we had only five groups of trick-or-treaters, and nobody arrived until after 7 pm. The first group was about 11 small children; then came a group of three girls in fancy home-sewn costumes; then we had Shaggy, Velma, a "backwards man," and a supposed scarecrow that looked more like a witch; then three kids with masks; and finally (after I'd collected "Shaggy" home from "Velma's" house) three more kids, I think including the daughter of the woman next door. So, 24 kids in five groups.

D. and his girlfriend know they're really too old for trick-or-treat, but their friends talked them into it. He said he felt awkward at the two houses where four-year-olds were giving out the candy. They did get a pretty fabulous haul, though.

Earlier in the day, I went downtown to try to see the "Thriller flash mob" event. I was too late for that, but I did get to see a lot of really cute small children - some who were still learning to walk - go trick-or-treating at the downtown businesses.

I didn't do a costume, beyond my "I like to think inside the box" skeleton t-shirt. J. was a storm trooper, as that's what his work team wanted to do this year. He rather likes the white slacks we bought for him, but he's concluded that he doesn't want to wear a mask for future Halloweens. I thought it was fun to have him be something besides the usual wizard.
