Because he's not in the school band this year, D. has to participate in the "pep band," which performs at the home football and basketball games in order to keep his eligibility for the youth symphony. Fortunately, there are only two football games he has to do pep band for this fall, this week and next week. Unfortunately, the band teacher thinks they need to practice for the hour before the game. Fortunately, there was a break in the rain this evening, so at least they didn't get wet out there. Unfortunately, D's school is terrible at football, so there wasn't even that to entertain them. And football is such a long game. So I dropped him off just after 6 p.m., and he got to go home... four hours later. I was grateful that he didn't grumble too much. Also I was able to follow the progress of the game from home, thanks to the Internet,t so I was already there when he was ready to leave.
