Listening Day
Jan. 16th, 2017 11:59 pmAs I said on Facebook and Twitter, I think white people like me should consider treating MLK Day as "Listening Day" and make a point of reading or watching at least one thing that a person of color thought was important to say to them. I read Dr. King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" and the latest Ta-Nehisi Coates essay about Obama.
My Facebook post got a fair number of likes but no shares, but the point was not for me to get credit from others, and it's hard to start a social movement if nobody spreads the word! Maybe next year I can treat it like a solid idea instead of a last-minute impulse.
