So it's slightly above or below freezing, depending where you check, and J. gamely agreed to come along with me to a "community caroling" event downtown. It was scheduled for 7 p.m., but the organizer (!) didn't show up until after 7:30, and she'd brought along a giant speaker thing to broadcast the YouTube versions of her chosen carols, which we were to sing along with. J. and I both thought it would be nicer if we were just singing the carols, especially as the versions she found online tended to have instrumental sections and creative vocal choices.

So we sang along with the group (there were about 16 of us), and stood around downtown in the cold. I'd only printed the lyrics for the first 13 songs, so after that we dashed off to my mom's favorite Italian restaurant and warmed up nicely with pizza, lasagne, and (for J.) a toffee and caramel dessert. But then we had five blocks to walk back to the car, and it felt extra cold, maybe because our circulation systems were now working on digestion. So we're home now, but still pretty cold.

Earlier in the day, I got to visit a fancyish house in the hills west of us, because the place where D's clarinet teacher has her usual studio was still without power, so we went to the studio owner's main house. She's a music professor at the local community college. We didn't meet her, only her nervous little dog. They had an amazing view to the east, though. I'm sure they can see the Three Sisters (snow-capped peaks) when it's clear.
