A thoroughly geeky weekend
Nov. 13th, 2016 11:53 pmYesterday we finished celebrating my birthday with a Magic draft for the three of us and seven of our friends. It was fun - I even won the first round, and not from my opponent having mana issues, as he did not. (That's how I usually win games...) DG brought his six-month-old baby at the beginning, and she made some very amusing faces.
Afterwards, we watched the first episode of the new Dirk Gently series - brutally violent but also funny, and I liked it. Later we watched our three hours of Saturday night anime, though I semi-napped through One Piece at the end.
Today was quieter, although we did go to Eugene Comic Con, because our friend is running Indie Game Con there this year rather than as a separate event. There were fewer games, but it was interesting anyway. We played a two-person cooperative puzzle game and completed the demo. We liked the main part of the comic con better this year than last - there was a Star Trek play that we watched a scene or two from, and we bought a stack of books from one booth and some beautiful art prints at another (Aang with Appa and Momo, Totoro and an array of Studio Ghibli creatures, and Kiki with her cat). (She didn't have any of Katara, so I'm using my Katara icon instead.) We saw the actor who played Eddie Munster in a booth, and a more recently famous actor I'd never heard of who was doing a panel.
