In the evening, J. likes to watch the Magic streamers, and often I go hang out over there with things to read and work to do, and then eventually I watch the streamers with him. Tonight we had the most popular famous streamer, and when he was done he switched to another popular famous streamer, then eventually he was done too. So I took control of the streaming and went looking for something pretty and interesting to watch. I succeeded in one of those...

The most visually appealing game I found was called Stardew Valley, and the most popular streamer was I suppose a Brazilian guy, who kept checking in on Hearthstone things too. Visually, Stardew Valley is very much like Legend of Zelda 3. The gameplay, however, well, let's say that I can only imagine that it's for people who have stressful busy lives and want to entertain themselves with a simpler lifestyle. In essence, Stardew Valley is about vegetable farming. You get up, you water your crops, you go to bed. You get up again, maybe till some more soil, add fertilizer, plant a few more potatoes, then you water all your crops and go to bed again. A few game-days later, you harvest your crops and sell them at Pierre's store, or you put them in your own storage boxes. You can also chop down trees, collect rocks, and eat wild horseradish and salmonberries, but mostly it's a farming sim game. (Poor J. kept waiting for the battles. Nope.)

For me, the appeal was listening to the streamer explain things in Portuguese to his audience - Portuguese is the most popular modern Romance language that I have little familiarity with. I could make out some of what he was typing, but the spoken language was harder. About all I could figure out was "good" and "potato."
