Spain - Pro Tour day
Apr. 22nd, 2016 11:32 pmThe Magic Pro Tours are three-day events. On the first day, everyone with a 4-4 record advances to day two, then the top eight go to day three. We had no realistic hope of day three, but people finishing with a 11-5 record get to go to the next Pro Tour, which is in Sydney in August, and that would be so exciting!
Anyway, by the time I went to bed last night, J. had won his first-round game. When I woke up at 6 a.m. to get D. off to school, he was 3-1! Day two seemed near certain, and when I went back to bed I was having visions of Sydney. When I woke up again, alas, he was 3-5. So, no day two.
Of his five losses, though, three were to players he was familiar with, including two hall-of-famers, and another was to someone he’ll surely know more about in the future, as he’s won five grand prix in two years, which is extremely impressive. So J. had fun with the pros.
Now he’s up and planning his extra day of sightseeing. I’m hoping he makes it to the national archaeology museum. He’s also considering the Gran Vía and a return to the royal palace.
