Three exciting things!
Apr. 19th, 2016 11:29 pm(1) J. is in Spain! He made it to his hotel, which seems to have good Internet, and he got some sleep, and now he's up and ready to start the day!
(2) Our search committee decided to hire our interim youth symphony conductor, and we are all really enthusiastic about him!
(3) This evening we had a talk by Paul and Scott Slovic, who have co-authored a book about the psychology of dealing with mass disaster, and how we can better use the humanities to overcome flaws in human cognition to act. They ran out of copies of the book before I made it to the table, but I already have reading material for the next few days. The book: "Numbers and Nerves: Information, Emotion, and Meaning in a World of Data." Contributors include Nick Kristof, Vandana Shiva, Annie Dillard, Bill McKibben, Terry Tempest Williams, etc.
