Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival

Despite considerably reluctance, D. is on the jazz band class field trip to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the largest jazz festival this side of the Mississippi, curiously enough located in Idaho. He wasn’t happy about spending 15 hours on the bus for a one-day event, and he doesn’t have any friends in the group. So he enjoyed the lunch stop at Multnomah Falls, I think, and was bored otherwise, mostly doing his homework and playing with his phone. They have safely arrived in Pullman, Washington. Tomorrow they’ll dress up and take their instruments over to Idaho for the festival, then back to the Pullman hotel in the evening, and then Sunday they’ll drive home.

If they do really well, they’ll get to play in a special live-streamed concert tomorrow afternoon! There are lots of schools, though, so I imagine the odds are low.
