Frames per second, for the win
Dec. 28th, 2015 10:59 pmThis evening we set up D’s new computer, which I got him for Christmas. Unlike the old one, this one has a proper graphics card. He was stunned. On League of Legends, he’d been accustomed to 40 frames per second on the lowest graphics settings, and now he can get 200+ on the highest graphic settings. Then on Guildwars 2, which had been nearly unplayable at 10 frames per second, he now gets a perfectly decent 60+ frames per second on the “best appearance” settings. He spent the last hour raving over it and calling me to the computer again and again to “Look at this! Look at that!” I win Christmas!
I told him to think of it as an illustration of racial privilege – imagine if he’d always had a computer this good.
(Meanwhile, we’re hoping the storm in Chicago won’t keep J. there longer; he has a ticket to leave tomorrow afternoon. His brother and sister-in-law were scheduled to leave in the morning but their flight was cancelled and now they’re stuck there for two more days.)
