Hallowe’en
Oct. 31st, 2015 10:22 pmSo D. finally finished his pumpkin this afternoon. I’d knocked mine off quickly on Wednesday evening, and J. labored greatly over his for hours last night, but after all, he did actually grow it in his yard, so it deserved care. We got them lit around 6:30 p.m. – after the first two trick-or-treaters, but before the other six. The 3" of rain we’d been promised for the weekend finally started in earnest around the same time. I hope my good friend “Donald Trump” didn’t get too wet. He gave me a $100 bill! I should have given him and his companions the Gorilla and the Ringwraith more candy, since we have so much of it. Eventually J. and I went to dinner – I added a graduation gown and bow tie so I wouldn’t feel so out-of-place in the restaurant with a wizard.
I reaggravated my poor mouth while eating lovely spinach enchiladas, and now I’m just resting on my couch, listening to the rain. I finished reading our book club book, The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. (I recommend it!) D. had spent last night at a friend’s house and they’d all gotten up at 4 a.m. to watch the League of Legends world championship, and although he was doing fine during his early afternoon clarinet lesson, he was pretty mentally scattered thereafter.
