“A Whole New World”

Here’s D. with his new glasses, marveling at the crisp definition of the world. Even though his vision isn’t that bad (20/30 in the right eye and 20/70 in the left) and the ophthalmologist said the glasses were strictly optional, he is pretty excited by them. It was fun – he kept going, “Oh my gosh! It’s amazing!” He definitely noticed a difference in his depth perception, and the glasses made him a bit light-headed, so it will take some adapting.


Meanwhile, he accidentally left his phone on the grass at school when I came to pick him up to take him to the glasses dispensary. We didn’t know it and didn’t realize it was missing until we got home later. He knew he’d exchanged texts with his friend S. while waiting for me, but other than that we had no clue. So we went back to the glasses place, then to the school and looked where he’d been, then to the school’s office and the lost-and-found, then home and through his backpack and all around the floor of my car. Eventually someone at the school found it and called S, who was probably prominent in his list of contacts, and she told them the phone was his and told him the phone was at the school, so back we went. The whole episode took over two hours, of which only 20 minutes was getting the new glasses, and we were pretty worn out at the end of it.
