We'd signed D. up for a summer fencing class at the neighborhood rec center, and at the last minute his best friend signed up too. Good thing, because only the two boys showed up today for the first class! Two others are also signed up but did not appear. Apparently the teacher is still allowed to run the class with only two students. Today he measured the kids for uniforms and practiced basic stances: first position, en garde, advance, and retreat.
Afterwards, when we got home, D. was going to teach me the stances, but we were in a hurry to get him to his friend's house to hang out, then later when I picked him up, he'd had a minor trampoline accident (bumping his tailbone on the ground when they were trying to bounce him), and the bruise was limiting his movement. So I won't be learning to fence (ha) until the weekend.
We're on the verge of a week-long heat wave, unseasonably early. I am so grateful that, unlike most people in Eugene, we do have air conditioning.
