J. and I went to the neighborhood Thai restaurant for dinner, and while we waited for our food I told him all about the guest speakers at the genocide prevention conference. But then I heard a very similar conversation from the next table over! So I looked over there and saw that, along with the elderly lady adjacent to me, who had a small dog (inside the restaurant!), were four other people, including the famous Paul Slovic who had organized the conference. I’ve known of him for years, in multiple contexts, but although he’s been introduced to me a few times, I am only one of hundreds such, and he wouldn’t recognize me. J. wanted us to say hello… we agreed that it’s an extravert/introvert difference, because my decision was to e-mail Paul later (and send him the companion paper to the one G. sent him, which he had been pleased with). I hope he’ll like the paper. I think if he’d been with just one other person, I’d have felt more comfortable interrupting his meal.
