Improvising
Apr. 7th, 2015 11:58 pmD. is making good progress on the alto sax, considering he's only tried it maybe four times now. He'd composed a melody in his head, during his shower, then came out and figured out how to play it on the saxophone. Then he played some of his "Henry Mancini Songbook," which is the clarinet edition. Playing the notes as written went too low, so he played them an octave higher. The amusing bit was when he got to a note that was too high to play, he'd take his mouth off the mouthpiece and make an appropriate vocal squeak in its stead. (It did inspire me to order him the alto sax edition, to arrive on Friday.)
