Go vultures!
Feb. 7th, 2015 09:35 pmI'm glad we figured out what to do about J's lost water supply yesterday, as our neighbor doesn't seem to have returned yet.
I just watched the first episode of Earth: The New Wild, which is pretty interesting. And adorable – the 14 baby pandas they're hoping to return to the wild, aww, baby pandas! In India, the urban vulture population dropped by 98% in two years, and that was a very bad thing for the humans. When those wandering cows die, they leave their bodies at the edge of the city for the vultures, which used to take care of them very handily, until some common veterinary treatment for the cows turned out to be like cyanide to the vultures. They've stopped using this drug, and they're trying to restore the vulture population. Without the vultures, the wild dog population exploded, leading to 12,000 human deaths annually from rabies.
