This evening we went to a birthday party for one of our friends, who’s the dad of one of D’s friends. We had a lovely dinner with roast beef, interesting conversation, and a rather long (and nowhere near finished) game of Commander with several kids. That is, I played with D, his friend, and two younger girls, and when D. had to leave for his Saturday night with his dad, J. substituted in for him. At one point, I had 34 soldier tokens with the prospect of another 40 when my turn came around again, but they all got wiped out in fairly short order – mostly because they made another of my creatures into a 40/40.

The really interesting thing, though, was talking with one of the adult friends, a software engineer who’s creating a virtual reality game in his spare time (while also co-raising four children, remarkably). He’s figuring out how to make it possible to throw “fireballs” with one’s hand – in other words, the first steps towards letting people have virtual reality wizard duels!
