Cleaning the dust out of my desktop computer case has restored functionality to the keyboard. Yay!
(Neither of my otherwise functioning keyboards had been working when plugged into the round port-thing, and D’s USB keyboard didn’t work in a USB slot, so I was about to give up and take the thing back to the office. But it was so embarrassingly full of dust that I decided I’d better clean it first. And now it works!)
(I wonder if the same thing would happen with my laptop. Many of the keys are only marginally functional. I did clean the keyboard, but I haven’t opened up the back.)
