Wrong order
Sep. 12th, 2014 11:48 pmSo D. and I are reading the second Amber book, The Guns of Avalon, in which our protagonist spends some time in a world akin to Arthur’s. D. doesn’t know a whole lot about Arthur, other than the Monty Python movie – it’s not my favorite mythos. Yet it’s one he should be familiar with, of course. And in fact, it’s in his Honors English reading packet. After they finish with Daedelus and Theseus, they’ll be moving on to Herakles, then Siegfried, and finally Arthur.
Anyway, so I’m reading The Guns of Avalon, and our protagonist mentions King Uther. D. asks, “How do you spell that?” “U-T-H-E-R.” D. comments, “Oh, like in Hearthstone!” (the online collectible card game he’s been playing during all of his leisure time for the last three weeks). Me: “Um, Uther is King Arthur’s father.”
Oops – clearly I should have introduced D. to Arthur et alia before he started meeting related characters in card games, let alone Zelazny books!
