This ‘n’ that, Thursday edition
Aug. 21st, 2014 11:58 pmD. got up super-early (for him in the summer) and went to the high school to fix his schedule. Now he has Japanese, like he wanted. So, fall trimester will be Concert Band, Japanese I, Honors 9th English, Biology, and Global Studies. Most classes are only two of the three trimesters for a whole year’s credit, so he gets Algebra II in winter and spring. He also learned how to ride the city bus home today – a success all around!
J. and I went for a twilight walk after dinner. Grazing on one lawn were a doe and two fawns, one of which was rather closer to us than the others. J: “Quick, I’ll distract the mother, and you grab the fawn!” Me: “Um, what would we do with it?” J: “Collect it!” Well, of course we did no such thing, although the prospect of a fawn growing up in my back yard was rather appealing (more than the bullfrog I was offered for adoption a couple days ago). However, when we saw another doe a few blocks further along, I knew what to say: “Collect all four!”
Then we assembled the rather attractive piece of furniture we’d bought for J’s livingroom. I didn’t realize until it was too late that the fumes from whatever they treated the wood with were getting to me. (What kind of pretty reddish-brown hardwood do they make Vietnamese furniture from, I wonder?) So now my throat is fairly sore. Then I aggravated it by reading aloud – we’ve started Nine Princes in Amber. I’m hoping some tea will help. Peach tea and an episode or two of Perry Mason before bedtime.
