Austenland, the movie
Aug. 11th, 2014 09:03 pmI know the secret to enjoying this mediocre movie – read the book first. Once you’ve read the really rather bad book, and accepted its premises, then you can actually appreciate the movie, because it’s so much better. In the first place, there are lovely men to look upon, and JJ Field’s acting to enjoy, and Jennifer Coolidge to marvel at. And in the second place, the personality of the heroine is much improved in the movie – at least she’s unrepentant about her love of things Austen, rather than self-loathing. I’d definitely give the movie two stars, instead of one, and I’ll probably watch it again some day.
