Today I spoiled myself by making a trip to my office (kind of a waste of time, since it’s 40 minutes during which I could be getting work done) and having a picnic lunch with J. (also not the most efficient way to eat lunch). We sat at a picnic table in the shade under the big walnut trees west of my office, then we went to look at the duck pond – only one obvious duck, but lots of tiny fish all schooling together in the shallows.
Then I came home and did get some things done, work-wise. I also finished painting one section of the fence and rewarded myself by planting some of the perennials I bought last weekend: purple salvia, pink penstemon, coral bells, and some pink forget-me-nots. They’ll look great against the white paint! Yesterday I planted the tomatoes in the back – varieties made for Oregon (Santiam Spring, Early Girl, etc.), so with luck I’ll get some ripe ones before September this time.
