Friday night wrap-up
Apr. 25th, 2014 11:58 pmI’m currently (practically at this very moment) reading the final Falco novel (Nemesis) and studying up on the new Magic set. Today J. and I had lunch together in the fancy alumni building, then in the evening we went on a very good walk up the hill, to Z’s house (she wasn’t home but we saw the dogs), and admired the cherry blossom petals all over the neighborhood.
Today I went in and talked with D’s band teacher about the upcoming auditions for the city-wide junior orchestra. That would be pretty cool, if he can do it. On the other hand, the high school advanced “wind ensemble” class already has enough clarinets, so he’ll have to take the regular “concert band” next year – yet this is also a good thing, because concert band is first period and wind ensemble is “zero period.” I was so not looking forward to getting him to school by 7:30 a.m. every day.
The band teacher also asked me about D’s writing. Apparently, even though he’s only there for two periods a day, he’d heard about D’s novelist project. It’s nice that my kid’s the topic of favorable teacher-gossip, much better than drifting through school anonymously.
Then, continuing the music topic, after school D. went over to his best friend’s house to see his new drums and they started a rock band, including another kid. They let D. be the drummer, and apparently he’s a natural. We are most definitely not going to have drums in this house. No way.
