(1) J. doesn’t like spoilers or skipping things in a story, so he wanted to see the new Capt. America movie before watching last week’s episode of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I was too tired and headachy to deal with the noise and brightness and big-screen-ness of a movie-theater movie. Solution: He took D. to it this evening, so now they’re both caught up on the Marvel plot, and we don’t have to keep waiting to watch S.H.I.E.L.D..

(2) Again, I was much too tired to go on the usual Sunday evening walk with other moms, but it was really a very pretty day, low 70s, clear, flowery, etc., and I did want to go outside and to see people. Solution: I invited them to go look at the wildflowers by the elementary school instead. My Korean friend ended up photographing all we could find: fawn lily, hound’s tongue, shooting stars, iris, trillium, Oregon grape, native violet, and non-native periwinkle.

Now they’re back from the movie, and D. is writing up his notes about explorer Jedediah Smith and his near-fatal encounter with the Umpqua people on the Oregon coast in 1828. After that, they might have chocolate fondue! Strawberries for me.
