I almost never go to the ORI holiday party, but this year I had someone to go with, and it was relatively fun because of that. Also, instead of being in a boring place, it was on the top floor of the downtown Hilton. How long has it been since I was on the 12th floor of a building? Maybe when I worked in San Francisco before B. was born? The view was nice, in the dark and the rain – all the lights looking wet and reflective. We had some random appetizers, then roast beef and penne with various sauces, then my first ever “Casino Night.” I did fine at Texas Hold ’Em poker and at blackjack, ending up with about $1600 in chips (we started with $1000), then I cashed them in at the roulette table, where the woman was giving away the lottery tickets extravagantly, as in, I’d earned 3+ tickets and received 18. On the way home, we witnessed an accident so I stopped and gave my contact info, but both parties were fine and the culpable one was appropriately apologetic. The rain stopped after we got home so I went on a brief walk, and now we’re just hanging out waiting for tonight’s anime. I’m glad yesterday’s (and this morning’s) migraine cleared up enough for the party, because for once I’m happier that I went.
